There’s a plant, in its pink plastic pot, sitting on the top of the stone planter, on my front porch. \u00a0I put it there Sunday when I got home from the trip to the mountains. \u00a0Tulips–only five-dollars from Walmart. \u00a0 It was raining–a soft spring shower fell all day.<\/p>\n

“Good,” I thought. \u00a0“It needs water and I went into the house to let the dog out and fixed us some dinner. ”<\/p>\n

Today is Wednesday and I haven’t done a thing to<\/em> or for<\/em> the plant on my front porch.<\/p>\n

I’m busy, doing paperwork. \u00a0Tax day is approaching and my husband is waiting for me to do my part: tally up some things, document others.<\/p>\n

I’m busy, planning next year’s calendar of events and programs.<\/p>\n

I’m busy, fixing meals, walking the dog, washing clothes and somebody<\/em> has got\u00a0<\/em><\/strong>to vacuum these floors. \u00a0We live in the city and the dirt seeps in through every minuscule crack and crevice in this old house.<\/p>\n

Today, Wednesday, \u00a0the tulip opened its bright red petals, holding the light . \u00a0 I smiled and I’m thankful. \u00a0All by itself–without my tending it–it is.<\/p>\n
