{"id":581,"date":"2018-12-12T11:44:07","date_gmt":"2018-12-12T16:44:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/glendakotchish.com\/dir\/?page_id=581"},"modified":"2018-12-12T11:44:07","modified_gmt":"2018-12-12T16:44:07","slug":"ringing","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"http:\/\/glendakotchish.com\/dir\/stories\/ringing\/","title":{"rendered":"Ringing"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>What\u2019s this ringing in my ears? <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLoss of hearing replaced with high pitched ringing,\u201d the specialist said. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt is a brain tumor?\u201d she asked.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cProbably or rather maybe, but not to worry&#8211;these types of tumors are benign,\u201d he said as he handed her a brochure. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cWe can do another test, a scan but there\u2019s nothing we can do to fix it&#8211;the ringing,\u201d he smiled at her. \u201cIt happens when you get older, that\u2019s all.\u201d<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOh,\u201d she said and turned the brochure over in her hands. She tucked it in her purse and rose to leave. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cStop at the desk and make an appointment for the scan,\u201d he said and smiled as he left the room.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She slipped on her wrap and found her way through a maze of halls, following the exit signs, to the reception area. The appointment made for a month later, she left the office. The fall wind pulled at her scarf and the rustle of the leaves drowned out the high-pitched frequency of the persistent ringing. <br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She found her car in the lot by clicking the remote. Beep, beep&#8211;a lower pitch than the ringing. She switched on the radio&#8211;classical music poured out the speakers&#8211;violins, an oboe, a cello. She forgot the ringing and drove home. She drove down main street of the small town&#8211;a small, quiet town. She turned off the car. The music stopped. The ringing took over.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She sighed.
